Fellowships
and Travel Grants
Since
1995, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation has hosted over 220
scholars through a program of residential fellowships and
travel grants at the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies.
Fellowships and grants are open to all scholars working on Jefferson
projects and are awarded on a competitive basis. Foreign nationals
are particularly encouraged to apply. Residential
accommodation may be available on a limited basis.
The International Center currently has three fellowship and grant programs available:
- The Gilder Lehrman Junior Research Fellowship
- Short-term Fellowships for Jefferson-related
projects
- Fellowships for DAACS-related
projects
- Barringer Research Fellowships
for Teachers of American History
- Travel Grants for Jefferson-related
projects
- Joint McNeil Center for Early American Studies Fellowships. Applicants should contact the McNeil Center; details are available at their web site: http://www.mceas.org/.
A list of recent ICJS Fellows and Travel Grant recipients is available.
Long-term fellowships are supported by The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Short-term fellowships and travel grants are underwritten by endowments established for this purpose by the Batten Foundation and Wachovia Corporation (formerly First Union National Bank of Virginia).
