Bookmark and Share Jefferson's Neighborhood Lecture Series

View of Jefferson's Cabinet (office) at Monticello showing his desk with Polygraph and theodolite in the backgroundThroughout his adult years, Thomas Jefferson worked to gather a local neighborhood network of family and friends … to create “a society to our taste.”

"Jefferson’s Neighborhood" will offer insights from experts on Jefferson’s relationship with James Madison, compare his image to that of James Monroe, and address the Jefferson family legacy. The view from Montalto will incorporate Jefferson’s work in agriculture, and an evening gathering at UVA will address the architectural and social design of his Academical Village. The series will conclude with a private, after-hours tour of Monticello, highlighting Jefferson’s relationship with those he hoped would share in the neighborhood exchange of ideals and ideas.

Sessions will be held on Wednesday evenings in September and October 2009, locations in and around Jefferson’s Neighborhood.

Detailed information can be obtained by downloading the brochure (.pdf) or by calling (434) 984-7504 or e-mailing mscottfleming@monticello.org. Registration begins August 26.

Cost: $115 per person
